If you’ve just picked up the software synth “Ascension” on a deal site like Plugin Boutique, you’re probably diving in trying it out and seeing how it sounds.

One thing that I couldn’t figure out is how to utilize the 6GB ROM sample library that comes with the synth. These aren’t samples you can include in your productions, they’re samples that can be used to create brand new sounds within the Ascension VST.

If you look in the browser, on the right hand side at the bottom are three tabs:

  • Presets
  • Midi
  • Samples
Preset Browser (Ascension VST)

You can click “Presets” and “Midi” and you’ll see the relevant files, but “Samples” is greyed out and not selectable.

So now what?

To browse the sample ROM library, you need to go back to the synth view. Click “Close” below the tabs.

Synth Editor View (Ascension VST)

Next, locate where it says “OSC1”, “OSC2”, “OSC3”..etc and tap the long rectangle to the right of the oscillator power button icon.

  1. Click the rectangle
  2. Click Browse
ROM Library Browser (Ascension VST)

Next you’ll see the browser window pop up and AH! the sample tab is now active!

Now you can choose any of the samples in your Ascension ROM library and create new sounds.

Hopefully this has helped you find out how to enable the samples in Ascension VST virtual instrument. I didn’t find much documentation on this.

If you don’t have Ascension VST yet, check out this demo video walking you through the different features and head to Plugin Boutique to check for any deals.

Happy music producing!
